Dream on – Dreamer
2026
Vertical blind, vintage lamp paper, pencil, eyelets, ceramics, beads
The phrase “Dream on – Dreamer” emerges from a derogatory response to the desire to hold on to one’s dreams, but is reappropriated in the work: mockery becomes self-assertion, condescension becomes determination. The ceramic works draw on culturally learned symbols of power, success, and naivety, shifting familiar signs from the past into a contemporary context. Childlike tactility, incised lettering, and an ostensibly naive visual language meet a reduced, self-assured aesthetic in black and white. The ceramics appear both fragile and resilient - skeletal, almost burnt, and marked by life. Between naivety, vulnerability, and determination, “Dream on…” ask what it means to hold on to one’s dreams despite doubt, failure, and the pressure to conform.
This works forms the second one of Rocho’s ongoing engagement with linguistic and installation-based works in which language, corporeality, material, and culturally learned symbols intersect.
